Designed to attract talented and enthusiastic middle school and high school flute players, this intensive, week-long program emphasizes the importance of technique, proper breathing and practice routines as well as repertoire and study materials. The program also includes information on music and instrument resources, and what the "flute world" is all about. Professional symphony orchestra flutists will teach techniques and skills that are unique to the flute using their expertise and experience to give young flutists information that goes beyond what they learn in band class.

The schedule for the week is as follows:
Monday-Friday:
9am - 12pm: Grades 7-9
1pm - 4pm: Grades 10-12
YOUR REGISTRATION FEE INCLUDES:
- Tuition - each participant will receive group instruction and performance rehearsal daily.
- Camp t-shirt
- Continuing Education Units (CEUs). CEUs are awarded for non-degree credit, self-improvement, personal development and skill upgrade programs. Transcripts may be requested listing workshops completed.

Snacks, pop and water are available for purchase during all workshops. You are also welcome to bring your own snacks, lunch and beverage.
WORKSHOP PRESENTERS
Dennis Carter, Director
Dennis Carter has a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from Wayne State University. His teachers were Ervin Monroe and Clement Barone. He continued his studies by winning an Orchestral Apprenticeship with Operalaboratorio in Palermo, Sicily and by invitation to attend Julius Baker’s Masterclass as a Performer.
He is well known as a soloist in the area having performed with the Wayne State University, Warren Symphony, Emerald Sinfonietta, National Association of Negro Musician Association-Collegiate Young Artist Concert, African American Composers Concert at Wayne State and with the Brazael Dennard Community Chorus.
He has toured the US with the NY Gilbert and Sullivan Players, The New Sigmund Romberg Orchestra and Carl Rosa Opera Company (UK).
Currently Principal Flutist with the Dearborn Symphony, he also holds that position with the Fisher/Masonic Theater Orchestra of Detroit, Warren Symphony and Orchestra Canton. A busy Free-lancer, he has performed with the all of the area orchestras including Detroit Symphony, Ann Arbor Symphony and most recently the Michigan Opera Theater Orchestra.
In addition to performing, Dennis taught flute for Henry Ford Community College, is an Assistant Teacher with the Southfield Public Schools Elementary Band and Orchestra and is a Performance Coach/ Theory Instructor for the Sphinx Preparatory Institute.
