WORKSHOP PRESENTERS

Mark Logsdon, Director

Mark Logsdon has been director of the renowned 1st Michigan Colonial Fife and Drum Corps since he and his late wife, Mary, founded the group in 1974. He has had a long association with the award-winning Stevenson High School Marching Band Drum Line and is currently senior drum instructor there. As a private instructor, Mr. Logsdon has as many as 60 students per week. His students are consistent award winners and several have gone on to pursue professional careers. He holds the distinction of having had former students play with every major Michigan university marching band, The Old Guard (U.S. Army) Fife and Drum Corps, and many other out-of-state colleges and universities.

Mark began playing professionally in 1961. His "Top 40" band was one of the top five bands in the metro-Detroit area until it was disbanded in 1981. Mark has toured in the UK, Canada and many states, including 25 consecutive tours of the Boston area during Patriot's Day festivities in April. With experience producing and recording, Mr. Logsdon has worked on movie sound tracks, commercials and CD projects. In fact, the 1st Michigan's fourth recording is scheduled for release this year.

Mr. Logsdon is currently a member of the board of directors of the Company of Fifers and Drummers and helped found the Michigan Music Association in 1972. He regularly serves as advisor, consultant and clinician for bands, fife and drums corps and instrument manufacturers on a national and international basis.

Alex Bromley, Clinician

Alex marches in the Eastside Fury independent world class indoor drumline, a finalist at this year’s Winter Guard International Competition. He currently attends Michigan State University where he has played cymbals in the Spartan Marching Band for the last two years. He has also played bass drum in the Compline for the last year. He was section leader of the drumline for the Stevenson High School Marching Band and the winner of several blue ribbons in solo snare drum and drum set solo.

Jon Jackson, Clinician

Jon is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education at the University of North Texas, where he studies under Dr. David Bithell, Christopher Deane, Mark Ford, Paul Rennick and Ed Soph.  At UNT he plays with the Symphony Orchestra, Concert Band, and NOVA New Music Ensemble as well as working as a free-lance musician in the area.   Jon composes for a variety of instruments and has earned numerous awards and scholarships, including the 1st Place Championship Snare Drum at the Michigan Music Association Competition in both 2001 and 2002.  This will be Jon’s fourth year working the Percussion workshop.
