PRELUDE TO SUMMER: OSCAR WINNING SCORES
formerly known as PRELUDE TO SUMMER
The summer film season is upon us! So, why not revisit the great films of the past, all Oscar winners?
What a range of plots, musical styles and composers. We’ll start with an anniversary of sorts, celebrating 70 years since Casablanca premiered in 1942. Bogie, Bergman and Max Steiner’s score… it doesn’t get any better than this. More recognizable movie music includes Mozart’s Amadeus, Arnold’s Bridge on the River Kwai and Barry’s Out of Africa. On a lighter note, the Macomb Symphony Orchestra performs Joplin’s “rags” that themed The Sting, as well as Silvestri’s score for Forrest Gump. And, what retrospect of movie scores would be complete without the touching John Williams composition for E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial.
It’s a veritable summer feast of film scores. Popcorn not included!
