Macomb Symphony Orchestra
FAMILY CONCERT
Selections for the Young to the Young-at-Heart
Sun. Mar. 14, 4pm • $18 adult, $14 student/senior
Most of the winter is behind us and it's time to celebrate with family (an friends). People of all ages should find this performance exciting and inviting.
We will start with "A Grand Grand Overture," yes..two grands. This humorous work by Malcolm Arnold will bring a chuckle. The featured solo instruments and three vacuum cleaners and a floor polisher! They will be "played" by former students of Maestro Cook. Add the rifle shots and other unexpected noises and we'll have you giggling before it's over.
Children of orchestras members will be featured in "A Toy Symphony." This charming 18th century work celebrates the sounds of children's musical toys. From the cuckoo and toy trumpet to the rattle and toy drum, the orchestra will have as much fun as you will.
For the young and young at heart, you can't beat music from classic Warner Brothers cartoons. Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck never had it so good.
A Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra is a classic of musical education, yet it's really entertaining and varied in style. Benjamin Britten based the work on Henry Purcell's melody and created an orchestra showpiece to display the sounds of every instrument. Our regular master of ceremonies, Kent Voight will narrate.
Get out of your easy chair and join the MSO for a fun filled afternoon.
