Classifications
At the Macomb Center we pride ourselves on offering Performing Arts experiences for students of different ability and experience levels. Our workshops are classified into three levels: Exploratory, Moderate and Intensive. Each level marks a progression in complexity of material covered in the workshop. These classifications are meant to serve as a guide in deciding if a particular workshop is right for your student. Please email artseducation@macomb.edu with any questions.
Exploratory
Something for everyone. For students with little to no formal training, or those simply looking to explore a new artistic discipline in a fun, pressure-free environment. Introduces fundamental concepts of the performing arts which build in complexity by grade level. Emphasizing imagination, self-expression and teamwork over technical perfection.
Students learn drama skills from a team of theater professionals from our community partner, All The World’s A Stage (ATWAS). The drama workshop places emphasis on cooperation, concentration, movement and story development in a non-competitive environment. While practicing the tools of an actor, and exploring art and music, students will learn to develop characters from familiar stories, as well as creating those of their own. Students will develop physical, social, and artistic skills through theater games, creative movement, improvisation, and pantomime. The workshop concludes in an informal showcase of learned skills.
