A Summer Like No Other!

We’ve missed you! The Macomb Center for the Performing Arts is excited, thrilled, and exhilarated to be able to offer reimagined versions of our Summer Workshops for the summer of 2021. The world of the performing arts is one where artists must be adaptive, and we are as well. This year our focus is on the education and skill building of the arts, we are working on the collaborative nature of the process vs. working towards a final performance. We are doing this in new ways and are ready to celebrate the contributions of each student. Join us for A Summer Like No Other! 

Important Safety Changes for 2021

• All workshops will take place outdoors behind the Macomb Center and the Lorenzo Cultural Center
• Participants will learn in a socially distanced manner
• Small group setting (No more than 15 students per section)
• Scheduled AM and PM sessions to allow for us to serve as many students as possible

Just like performers follow their cues, so are we. Due to the ever-changing nature of the pandemic we are following industry best practices and CDC guidelines.

Drama Workshop
July 12-16, 2021

Grades 3-5 • 9am-12pm • AM Session
Grades 6-12 •1pm-4pm • PM Session

• Registration Fee: $175
• Open to students in grades 3-12

The drama workshop places emphasis on cooperation, concentration, movement and story development in a non-competitive environment. By exploring the art of characters from familiar stories and creating those of their own, participants will develop physical, social, and artistic skills through theatre games, creative movement, improvisation and pantomime. Musical Theatre Workshop
July 19-23, 2021

Grades 3-5 • 9am-12pm • AM Session
Grades 6-12 • 1pm-4pm • PM Session

• Registration Fee: $200
• Open to students in grades 3-12

Working on scenes and songs from popular musicals, students will work from a script, and learn how incorporating music and choreography can move a plot forward. Learn More

Show Choir Workshop
July 26-30, 2021

Grades 7 & 8 • 8:30am-12pm • AM Session
Grades 9-12 • 1pm-4:30pm • PM Session

• Registration Fee: $200
• PM Session with solo auditions to follow on selected days
• Open to students in grades: 7-12

This high intensity program allows students to put their singing and dancing skills together in a review of popular musical numbers. Students will have the opportunity to learn about vocal technique, song interpretation and dance from top-rated professional choreographers and vocal coaches. Hard work and camaraderie will result in artistic and personal growth. The program offers exciting learning opportunities, a fun atmosphere where life-long friendships are made. Learn More

Some choir experience and singing ability helpful. All experience levels are accepted. In most instances, full mobility is required to appear in all choreographed numbers. 

Students will end the week in a Patio Performance for family and friends! This is a complimentary event, we hope to see you there.

Youth Choir Workshop
August 23-27, 2021

Grades 2-5 • 9am-11:30am • AM Session Only

• Registration Fee: $100
• Open to students in grades 2-5 • AM Session only

Through music, singers in grades 2-5 are challenged and encouraged to reach a level of excellence while developing music skills, building confidence, discipline, self-esteem and an understanding and love of the art of music. Our instructors help young singers develop their musical potential. Come sing with us!
